Stronghold
(L: Schell; M: Cimetta)
Notes:
I got the idea for "Stronghold" from a poster I had, which was inspired by a book called "The Moth and the Moon." (Never read it.) In essence, this song completes the journey of the three men in "Gates;" yes they do get what they want and make it "through the gates to the temple," but what they ultimately find isn't as glorious as they'd hoped for. Ah, cynicismÉ
Mysteries kept on a mountain high
Grayness with night of deepest dye
Human survival moves along
To conquer this castle one must be strong
Dark warriors will devour
All noble attempts on this magical power
Forces which can't be overthrown
A feudal society where evil roams.
Standing proud in the clouds
The city protects itself
Standing proud by itself
The city in the clouds.
Strongholdstronghold
Within here behold
The secrets untold
Beholdstronghold
Unfoldstronghold
Beholdstronghold
Unfold.
Almighty men with armor coats
Are burned at the stake inside the moat
Ghosts of King Arthur dance about
Death and destruction there's no doubt
Keepers of broomsticks and crystal balls
All lie between these concrete walls
Alcatraz in fantasy form
In this new world one must conform.
Standing proud in the clouds
The city protects itself
Standing proud by itself
The city in the clouds.
Strongholdstronghold
Within here behold
The secrets untold
Beholdstronghold
Unfoldstronghold
Beholdstronghold...
