THE BEACH www.off-cape-escape.com

VIEW SLIDE SHOW

Our beach is not one of the most high-class places you've ever been, but it's definitely a fun place to be. Folks from Marshfield and its neighboring communities cover its sandy spaces with both beautiful, nubile forms and wrinkled, inelastic bodies. The Brant Rock is a big rock out in the ocean connected by a jetty to the beach, and is a wonderful place to sit and watch a three hundred and sixty-degree panorama of nature's beauty and human enterprise.

The beach is wide at low tide but narrow with a full moon high tide. It's noisy and full of activity in the summer, but mostly quiet in the winter, except for the typically more pounding waves. The beach is sandy, but at times is covered with stones and seaweed, and is framed in by rock jetties put there in an attempt to tame Mother Nature.

Although storms are not uncommon, the ocean is sometimes as placid as a lake. And the water is usually not as warm as we would like it...closer in temperature to the beaches of San Francisco than those of San Diego would be. But on those summer or fall days when the wind whips up waves of warmer surface water, you'll probably never find a better place for body surfing.
